Beach holidays: Mira

April 1, 2010 in Beaches in Portugal, Places in Portugal

The beach is set on the southernmost tip of the Ria de Aveiro, unfortunately the construction boom of past years has given an unaesthetic surroundings to the beach.
It is a preferred summer holidays setting for the Portuguese, but even though there is a lot of people in the summer, you can find many stretches of beach which are very quiet as this beach goes for almost 30km.
Again here it used to be a fisher village. Due to the harsh sea, the fisherman developed a sea-boat capable of breaking the waves. It doesn’t have keel and is a huge rowing boat that you can still see today and even help toe ashore, if you wake up early enough (they come ashore 5:00 -6:00 in the morning).
