Beach holidays in Portugal

March 22, 2010 in Beaches in Portugal, Places in Portugal

The long Portuguese coastal  line of 850km is a beautiful setting for some excellent beaches. From the long stretches of sand going for kilometres, to small bays, there is a bit for every taste.

Common accent on the western Atlantic coast is of course the colder sea, and sometimes not very quiet, whereas the southern Atlantic is warmer and quieter.

Starting in the north with Praia do Moledo, we’ll go down to the centre and beach in Costa Nova, Torreira, the Praia de Mira, S. Martinho do Porto, Foz do Arelho and Ericeira, this last one north of Lisbon; then the southern west coast od Alentejo and the lovely beaches of Meco, Comporta and Carvalhal, Almograve and Odeceixe, and already in the Algarve but on the West, the beaches of Arrifana and Carrapateira  to arrive at last on the south to the beaches of Sagres and Barril.

The blue flag classification given to many of the beaches  guaranties  the quality of waters and beach in general.  See here beaches with the blue flag in Portugal.
