10 Places to Stay in Porto

February 27, 2010 No Comments

Not long ago, Porto had hardly any hotel offer. Today there are hotels, guesthouses, apartments and much more. Here are some selected accommodation:

  • Apartments in Porto – you’ll find here some very nice apartments/flats fully furnished and equipped with one or two rooms. All of the flats are very central.
  • Pestana Porto hotel -  this very nice hotel is by the river and overlooking the Ribeira, deep in the old town. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated albeit some of them are somewhat small. Breakfast is delicious.
  • Pousada Porto Palacio do Freixo – if you are new to the concept of the Pousadas, then here you have an excellent chance to stay (and enjoy) one of the most beautiful. The Pousadas belong to a partly stately owned company whose aim is to bring historical or natural patrimony back to life. Palácio do Freixo was in ruins, when it was converted into one of  the Pousadas. Although it is on the outskirts of the city, a stay is absolutely good value!
  • Casa do Poema – astonishing guesthouse in Foz overlooking the sea, has ensuite rooms and suites (with an extra living room)
  • Bessa hotel – very nice, modern boutique hotel.
  • 444 Guesthouse – A new guesthouse in an old street of the city. Located in the heart of Porto in the Rua do Almada is this nice guesthouse.
  • Hotel of Eurostars Artes – very nice set amidst the arts districts (near the Santo Antonio hospital, West of down-town – 10 minute walk)
  • Poets hostel – if you don’t mind sharing room or are anyway on a low budget then this is the place. It’s central, right in front of the Clérigos Tower, new, nicely decorated and charming.
  • Trindade – modern, designed hotel located right in the centre, close to the Metro station Trindade behind the Town Hall. Better, it’s impossible! Set up very nicely!
  • Residencial o Escondidinho – also in the centre, right next to Santa Catarina shopping street is this pension. Older than the others, also cheaper. All rooms with WC and breakfast!

These are only some examples which I know, but Porto has a much bigger offer for all tastes and prices. You only need to  search the web.
